The Huave are an indigenous group from the southeastern coast of Oaxaca. The textile for this pillow was woven in the village of San Mateo del Mar. Traditional Huave textiles are woven on a backstrap loom from fine cotton dyed with natural dyes _ in this case, with dyes derived from the coconut. The Huave are a fishing people; therefore, textiles often contain motifs from the beach and the sea.
