Provenance

The Light Star Muong pillows are inspired by a vintage Muong textile. The only surviving descendants of the early Vietnamese, the Muong have maintained their traditional way of life in the mountains of northern Vietnam. In Muong culture, young girls inherit weaving techniques from their mothers beginning at an early age. The harmonious patterns are colored by natural indigo dyes. The Terracotta Classic Kuba Cloth Euro Pillow is made from fabric that is inspired by Kuba cloth, a unique textile featuring complex designs that are created when various geometric raffia pieces are stitched to a plain raffia background. The resulting rough surface is punctuated by repeated geometric patterns with unexpected interruptions in design. The Kilim pattern is inspired by a Turkish flat tapestry-woven kilim rug originating from the tribal and nomadic cultures of Anatolia. Each region producing kilims employs its own distinctive patterns and colors in the rug design. Kilims are used either as prayer rugs or purely for decoration. The Coral Cross Miao pattern is inspired by a vintage Miao wedding blanket. The Miao are an ethnic minority group from the mountainous provenances of southern China. Wedding blankets were woven in cotton and silk by the bride and her family as a gift to the groom and his family. The brocades feature elaborate geometric motifs that require a high level of skill.
